The Atherley Bowling Club – Headquarters of The Southampton Open Bowls Tournament
The Southampton Open Bowls Tournament is the largest lawn bowls Tournament in Hampshire. Licensed by ‘Bowls England’ as a Five Star Tournament, it regularly attracts in excess of 300 Competitors in the five main knockout Competitions: Men’s Singles, Pairs and Triples, and Ladies Pairs and Triples.
The Tournament is a weeklong annual event, held during the last week in July each year. Play commences on the Monday, with players competing in the various competitions through out the week, from approximately 09.30 hours to 21.00 hours, until the Finals that are held on
the Saturday afternoon. We have at our disposal the use of up to nine of the best local bowling venues in the Southampton & Eastleigh areas, including the Atherley Bowling Club, our Tournament Headquarters, where the Semi-Finals and Finals are staged.We receive Entries from all parts of the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands, with the majority being from the Southampton, Eastleigh, Winchester, Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Aldershot areas. As well as competing for Prize money and Awards of at least £2,500.00, our Competitors are drawn back year on year by the unique flavour and atmosphere of our Tournament, together with the opportunity to meet and compete against fellow bowlers from all over the UK.
2010 will be the 58th consecutive year of the Southampton Open Bowls Tournament, with our current Sponsors, the Southampton District of the Oddfellows, concluding their Five Year Sponsorship agreement with us in 2012. We are therefore seeking potential Sponsors for the 2013 Tournament onwards.
