E.W.I.B.A. National Finals
February / March 2007
The Atherley Four of Jackie Farmer, Ann Littlewood, Liz Russell and
Margaret Darkin made it all the way to the National Finals at Loddon
Vale!
They played a team from King George Field on Thursday 1st March.
The game was keenly contested, Atherley taking a narrow lead early
on. At the half-way stage, there was only one shot in it, King George
Field having just gone ahead 9-8.
Then a sequence of ends followed in which, despite several times having
plenty of seconds, the shot always went against Atherley.
However, a spirited fight back saw our girls 4 down on the game in
the last end, but holding the 4 needed to force an extra end.
But a good wood from the opposition number three claimed shot and could
not be shifted. Final score, 18 - 13 to King George Field.

Red White and Blue Day
Sunday 30th July 2006
An informal day was held on Sunday 30th July 2006 with a theme of
Red White and Blue. Again we were blessed with good weather and a very
enjoyable days bowling was enjoyed with the use of all 12 rinks - a
fantastic turnout.
After the game there was a hog roast accompanied by other food prepared
by a small group of members who should be very proud of the achievements
of that day.

Monday 16th May 2006
Monday 16th May 2006 was the day that the club officially celebrated
its 100th birthday - it was on this day in 1906 that the club was officially
founded at a meeting held at Southampton Football Club.
The club celebrated the day by a game for all members followed by
a meal. Before the game a hundred Red and Green balloons were released
with the sale proceeds of these balloons going towards the Presidents

Atherley Tour to California
1st April 2006
1st April 2006 saw 43 members of Atherley depart for a 15 day tour
of California. The tour was based at Anaheim in Los Angeles and we were
scheduled to play 6 games. On the first Monday we all set off in our
coach for Santa Barbara but the further we got north the darker the
sky became - then drizzle - then rain - by the time we arrived at the
club it was a downpour. We soon realised we were not going to get a
game but the club entertained us well and we had a great time. Roger
being the only person to bowl!
The following games at San Diego, Holmby Park (Beverley Hills), Laguna
Beech, Newport Harbour and Long Beach were all played in lovely weather.
The reception at all the clubs was magnificent and we all returned to
the UK left with some reluctance but fantastic memories.
