What, Where & When

Bowling

The opportunities to bowl are different for Outdoor and Indoor and are:

Indoor

The club is open for bowling from 8am through to 10:15pm every day except advertised closures, such as Christmas / New Year.

The day is divided into 2 hour sessions - some of these are organised leagues and some are available to book in advance.

The 8am session (Dawn Patrol) is a turn up and play session where players can practice or organise their own games. This is extremely useful for new members giving them the opportunity to meet new people and play with players of all abilities.

There are other drives on Wednesday, Friday and Sundays.

Friendly games are normally played on Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

There are plenty of opportunities for competitive and representative bowls as your skill and enthusiasm develops.

The main Indoor season runs from late September to mid April. Summer indoor bowling is also available.

Outdoor

The outdoor greens open at approximately 10am each day through till dusk, from mid / late April to mid / late September.

Specific opening and closing dates are decided by the Outdoor committee each year.

Please also be aware that for certain periods each Summer, the greens, or some rinks, are formally handed over for specific events, such as the Southampton Open Tournament. At these times, club members may not book these rinks for roll-ups or competitions. The dates for such events are published and advertised well in advance in the handbook, rink booking forms and on club notice boards.

Green or rink closures due to weather or essential maintenance may occur, at the discretion of the Greenkeeper and nominated members of the Outdoor committee. Notice boards to this effect will be displayed on the green(s) at such times.

There are triples leagues on Monday (open), Wednesday (men) and Friday (open) and a ladies club afternoon on Tuesday.

Friendly games are arranged at various times throughout the season.

As for Indoor, there is a full program of competitive bowling and representative games for anyone who wants to be considered for selection.

For both Indoor and Outdoor there is a booking system so that anyone can book a rink in advance and know that they can play. Anyone can, of course, turn up at any time and, if there are rinks free, use them (subject to the applicable rink fees for Indoor bowling).
