Bowls Equipment

Bowls is also one of the cheapest forms of sport to take up as well as play.

A set of bowls is an obvious requirement, but represents the biggest problem for anyone taking up the sport.

Bowls are available in nine different sizes, three different weights and a multitude of different colours. Added to that each manufacturer has around six different styles of bowl to suite different bowling styles and conditions.

The cost of a new set of woods is between £85 and £180. Faced with this situation it is almost impossible to say to a new bowler which bowls are best suited to them. It is for this reason that we always recommend that a new bowler starts with a second hand set of woods - if they can.

There are various reasons for this but the main one is an issue of cost - a second hand set of bowls can be purchased for between £40 to £60. If you buy a new set of bowls and then discover that they are the wrong size, weight, style for what you need then you will only get the £40 - £60 for them if you sell. If however you get a second hand set of wood this will not only get you out on the greens but will allow you to discover which type of bowl is suitable to your individual needs. Then go and buy a new set and you will be able to get your money back on the original woods by selling them, probably for the same price as you bought them.

The club has a notice board specifically for the sale of second hand bowls equipment. In addition two commercial companies make frequent visits to the club where they 'set up shop' within the club. These visits are well publicised on the clubs notice boards.
